Even in the warmer months I constantly complain that I’m cold so when autumn hits I feel like walking around in my duvet all day! Obviously I can’t do that though so the next best thing is a new coat.
Outerwear is the main attraction of your autumn/winter wardrobe and we’ve been bombarded with choice this season. The styles seem to be endless but at the end of the day it’s down to your personality and lifestyle as to what design you ultimately choose. Then it’s the matter of building your new season looks around it. No one will judge you though if you buy more than one coat – it will be our little shopping secret!
So what styles are trending this year I hear you ask? Well of course the classic trench is back, but these never really go out of style to be honest. Their versatility makes them an ideal day to night option. I love the streamline silhouette they create plus for this season they come in a range of eccentric fabrics such as vinyl – two trends in one ultimate piece!
Shearling is a major hit too and is great for making a statement. It is super cosy without feeling too laidback plus they come in so many variations; from belted to free-flowing to subtle lining or full on shearling.
If you’re after a more casual cover-up then a puffer design is a winning style! The ultimate throw on and go coat that will keep you snug and warm throughout the cold months. Short and longer lengths are available along with hooded and belted options.
Faux fur is always a popular choice every winter thanks to its luxurious and statement evoking appeal. Us fashionistas will never tire of these fluffy coats so it’s a good thing that there are so many designs and colours out there to satisfy our shopping needs.
Boucle coats are a contender for this year too! These retro style cover-ups are soft to the touch, have that cosy look to them but are understatedly beautiful and easy to wear. Choose between the oversized and unstructured silhouette or a more tailored shape.
At the end of the day a coat is a major investment piece which you’ll no doubt be wearing right through to February and maybe even beyond thanks to Britain’s unpredictable weather so check out some of my favourite styles for some inspiration before you commit. The selection is so diverse we’ve been utterly spoilt this year!
