As a fan of designer brand Acne Studios I was extremely excited to have the chance to write about their Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection and feature it on World of a Fashionista!
Acne is wearable high fashion at its best which appeals to a range of women with different lifestyles making the brand extremely popular. Some of the pieces exude a real grungy edge which makes them very unique and a little quirky – most likely why I love this designer so much.
For this season, they wanted to link the range with Acne Paper, which is a glamorous and intelligent magazine celebrating personality, authenticity and style. It is published twice a year and is created around one key idea. They took inspiration from the subject of the next issue, the Body in Art, looking through the body through artists the brand was attracted to, building a collection with unexpected clashes between materials, textures, colour and shape.
The distorted abstraction of surrealist photographer André Kertész, came to inspire the contoured panelling and wave like volumes. The volume created is contained and trapped around the waist to create fascinating, surreal shapes giving the collection a fashion forward feel. Hans Bellmer’s erotic sculptures inspired Acne to make the range more daring whilst painter Hanneline Røgeberg motivated a colour card of varying tones of fleshy pinks and dusty beiges, contrasted with flashes of unexpected eye-popping colour.
Fabrics play a big role throughout the collection and are technical yet fluid which is how the interesting shapes and cuts are achieved. Stiff cottons, washed wools and cashmere knits contrast with more technical fabrics such as power netting, vinyl and padded nylons. For a contemporary feel, traditional materials are used in untraditional ways for an amazing twist to certain garments. Shoe leathers for jackets, knits are padded with down and bonded cotton is used for trousers.
Rich, sumptuous and vibrant colours such as orange, green and deep red are combined to produce luxuriously beautiful looks for fall giving the pieces a subtle elegance. Interesting shapes, cuts and quirky detailing is what makes this collection so beautiful whilst the chic tailoring provides the modern-day edge.
This Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection is perfect for the fashion conscious woman who isn’t afraid to push the boundaries of fashion and embrace new and exciting trends.
